# FAQs

Short answers to common questions.

### Are rates fixed or variable?

Borrow and savings rates are variable governance parameters. A rate change applies from the time it takes effect on-chain. It does not apply retroactively.

### What does a CDP's rate cap do?

It limits the borrow rate the CDP pays. Above the cap, the CDP pays the cap, or the market's savings rate if that is higher, and other users can redeem against it. See [Rate cap](/use-butane/borrow.md#rate-cap).

### Why did my rate cap go up when I repaid part of my CDP?

When the market rate is above a CDP's cap, a partial repayment raises the cap to the market rate. See [Partial repayment and the rate cap](/use-butane/manage-positions.md#partial-repayment-and-the-rate-cap).

### Why can a healthy CDP be redeemed?

Liquidation depends on the health factor. Redemption depends on whether the market borrow rate is above the CDP's rate cap. See [Liquidate and redeem](/use-butane/liquidate-and-redeem.md).

### Where did my collateral go after my CDP was redeemed or liquidated?

After a full redemption or liquidation, the collateral the other user did not take is set aside for you. Claim it from **Portfolio**. See [Claim leftover collateral](/use-butane/manage-positions.md#claim-leftover-collateral).

### When can I unstake?

Each new stake is locked for a period the market sets, shown as **Lock** on **Earn**. Once the lock has passed, you can unstake at any time.

### Why is a treasury swap unavailable?

The market may not support the selected reserve asset, or the treasury may not have enough capacity for the requested amount.

### Why are only some wallets officially supported?

The listed wallets have been tested most thoroughly. Other compatible wallets the app detects appear under **Also detected** when you connect.

### What does the redundant collateral warning mean?

Collateral above an asset's maximum proportion stays yours but does not add borrowing capacity. The most of an asset's value that counts, measured in the synthetic, is its maximum proportion × its weight × the debt. **Rebalance** removes the excess the Borrow form flags.

### How do I get test assets on Preview?

Request test ADA from the Cardano testnet faucet, then mint test collateral from **Settings** in the app. See [Try Butane on Preview](/get-started.md#try-butane-on-preview).
